In Diablo 2, many gear pieces will drop with one or more sockets. If you’re having trouble wrapping your head around the quirks of Runes and Runewords, we’re here to help. There’s nothing quite like Diablo 2’s Rune system in the ARPG genre. If you’re new, however, this system will look entirely unfamiliar, even if you’ve played Diablo 3 or Path of Exile. Runes are the cornerstone of Diablo 2’s gear system. In general, Amazons will almost always prefer Amazon Bows as base items. They all add anywhere from +1 to +3 Bow and Crossbow skills. Amazon Bows are all Bows, with higher Strength and Dexterity requirements of normal Bows of their level. Most models with the exception of the Repeating crossbows (Repeating Crossbow, Cho-Ko-Nu, and Demon Crossbow) are Normal to Very Slow in speed, but hit a lot harder than an equivalent Bow. Crossbows overall have lower Strength and Dexterity requirements.Bows do not do as much damage as most Crossbows, but their higher speed usually more than makes up for it. However, if you use a Normal unsocketed base item to apply sockets using Larzuk in Act V, he will always install the maximum number of sockets. You can use the Horadric Cube recipe to roll a random number of sockets in a Normal unsocketed base item, up to the maximum. An item that can roll with 2 sockets can be found with 1, 2, or 3 sockets. Sockets: This is the maximum number of sockets - not a guaranteed number of sockets. Be careful not to create an item your character can't wear due to too-high Dexterity requirements.
